Pedal-less Bike For Fred Flintstone & Friends

by Brooke Dowd Sacco

Pedals make bike riding–and transportation in general–quite easy. So really, who needs ‘em? Quit being lazy. The Fliz Bike concept from Germany takes kicks old school…way, way old school. It harks back to the original hobby-horse-style walking bike of the 1820s, before people figured out that pedals and a chain make the whole thing, you know, possible. As if all that wasn’t odd enough, the Fliz also got rid of the seat, in favor of hanging the rider from the frame in some sort of uncomfortable-looking sling. The concept has been entered for a James Dyson design award and I absolutely hope it wins so I can witness some fool “riding” along on one.
