Extraneous Lyrics 2012

by Jenni Chasteen

If you’ve ever criticized pop songs for their use of exceedingly simple vocabulary then here’s a music video you might enjoy. OkaySamurai has put together a medley of 2012’s most popular songs reworked to contain extraneous lyrics. Catchy hits like Call me maybe and Gangam Style become “Perchance we’ll engage in telephonic discourse” and “In a manner similar to Gangnam district in Seoul South Korea.” The crazy thing is somehow he still makes it work with the melodies of the original songs… for the most part. One might argue that this makes the case for simple lyrics because they’re easier to remember. I, on the other hand, have had “If I was your male companion” stuck in my head all day. Source
