Nobody wants to hear the smoke alarm go off in the middle of the night. Then again, it’s better than not hearing it at all. But for the times when you’ve just burnt the cookies…again, it would be nice to have a more pleasant sound reminding you of yet another kitchen mishap. The Chick-a-Dee smoke detector takes its design from the American Black-capped Chickadee. This name is a tribute to its warning call, the phonetic Chickadee sound. At the smallest threat, the bird calls chick-a-dee-dee, and in more serious circumstances, the call becomes a loud dee-dee-dee sound. As soon as smoke is detected a 85 db alarm signal is activated, letting you know that dinner is done. $63
