The Greatest Lamp Is a Butt Lamp That Turns On When You Spank It

A few years back, we learned about Slap It, a butt lamp that lights up when you spank it. At the time, the limited-edition creation cost upwards of $1,000, which is a pretty hefty price to pay for the privilege of smacking a glowing behind. But in 2015, the cheeky creation made a comeback at a far more affordable price: about $230.

Totally worth it. As I’ve mentioned tirelessly in the past few weeks, I’ve got a birthday coming up, and this butt lamp just shot straight to the top of my wishlist. So, uh, what are you waiting for? GO GO GO GO!

Designed by London-based artist and designer Joseph Begley, Slap It was made from soft silicone and used pressure sensors to switch on and off when slapped, pinched, or squeezed. It’s a light fixture, a conversation starter, and possibly the only lamp that invites you to give it a good whack.

The original lamps were reported in eight colors, but the 2015 version offered ten LED lighting colors. Because apparently having a glowing butt lamp wasn’t ridiculous enough. You needed options.

And there really was a substantial price difference. Reports from 2014 listed the limited-edition lamp at around $1,164; 2015 coverage put the new model at £149, or approximately $230 at the time. That’s still a lot to spend on a novelty light, but it’s a whole lot easier to justify than a four-figure rear end.
